Dakine :
Dimensions 55 x 13 x 34 inches
Weight 17 lbs. 12 oz.
Delta and Alaska airlines now charge the same for a bike case as they do to check a suitcase if it weighs in under 50 lbs. If it goes over, the price goes way up. Word on the street, other airlines are following suit.
I've used the Dakine bag on two recent trips for my steel gravel bike (20 lbs. 700c wheels). No problem coming under weight . No problem with frame and wheel safety either. While a soft bag, its smart design compensates. The wheels go in protective bags which become protection for the frame. Works for both road and MTBs. Some bike-mechanic skills needed.

I've packed a medium Specialized Diverge (carbon gravel bike) into this case twice. My only complaints? The 'dedicated wheel compartments' need more dedication, but everything still fit (could have been operator air). The second thing, even after pulling off the pump, both pedals, saddle bags, frame bag, and possibly the seat post/saddle and bottle cages, making weight was close. But we did it. A carbon road bike? No problem. Some bike-mechanic skills needed.
Local pick up only.
Security deposit: $450 (Dakine) $600 (Scicon)
